ARTIST STATEMENT
All of my work has meaning and duality. Every decision I make is intentional and essential to the stories I portray through my work. Through every medium and subject I explore, I aim to connect and begin deeper conversations through the lens of media forms that we often engage with as people. My art is a reflection of who I am and what I stand for. On the surface level, my work mainly revolves around pop culture, animation, and light-hearted media. Upon engaging with the actual work, you will soon realize that all of these media forms act as a means of discussing deeper political topics. All of my work is rooted in civic advocacy, human connection, craft, and education.
As a designer, I utilize color, imagery, and expressive typography to create art and design work that defies the standard. I lean into and explore unconventional tactics and the process of physical creation. To digitally and physically create art is one of the most human experiences. As such, I utilize both processes within every work that I produce. Like with everything else in life, art is political. My art, its messages, and my existence are all political. I aim to create a comfortable environment wherein people are able to view, understand, and engage in their own conversations surrounding topics that affect us all as humans. Utilizing familiar media forms facilitates this process. My work is a means to an end in the grand scheme of things. Even so, it aims to inspire and educate.
As a designer, my brand and its multiple forms take inspiration from court jesters. While the figure is often thought to be a trickster and a clown, that is only a surface level observation. At their core, Jesters are very intelligent and entertaining. They acted as truth tellers and had the freedom to speak out at times when many could not or would not. Through their comedy, jesters would make political commentary both overt and subtle, often embedded in their words. They would tell the truth, deliver news, and tell stories. There was intention and more profound meaning behind how they portrayed themselves and how they acted. The court jester is a figure I resonate with in many ways.
My work and brand are both intentional. I aim to continuously evolve and transform for the better, both in my art and my way of life. I seek to create work that grows while remaining reliable rather than stagnant. My extensive brand is the manifestation of this idea of constantly transforming and evolving.
